The Portuguese team that participated in the 10th edition of the International Olympiad on Astronomy was composed of four students from Técnico – Diogo Ribeiro (Engineering Physics), Ivo Gonçalves (Mechanical Engineering), João Pedro Gomes (Engineering Physics) and Vasco Esteves (Engineering Physics) – and ranked 7th in the competition that took place in Bhubaneswar, India, in December.

Vasco Esteves and Diogo Ribeiro were also distinguished with an honourable mention, which contributed to Portugal’s good position at this competition. 44 teams from 41 different countries attended the International Olympiad on Astronomy.

The Portuguese Astronomy Society organises the Olympiad in Astronomy at national level. The members of the Portuguese team, who currently study at Técnico, were selected while they were studying at secondary school.
