“These awards will keep alive the memory and work of two professors from Técnico”

Seven students were distinguished in the fields of Structural Mechanics and Structures, Architecture and Hydraulics, Environment and Water Resources.

The awards for the best students of integrated masters in Civil Engineering and Architecture were delivered last Wednesday, after the lecture “50 Anos da Ponte 25 de Abril”, organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Georesources (DECivil) and FUNDEC – Association for Training and Development of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

According to professor Fernando Nunes da Silva, president of DECivil, “the 50th anniversary of Ponte 25 Abril shouldn’t be forgotten”. On this occasion the awards that distinguish “the best students of Civil Engineering and Architecture” were delivered. “These awards will keep alive the memory and work of two professors from Técnico.”

The award Professor João Arménio Correia Martins (Structural Mechanics and Structures) concerning the academic year 2015/16 was delivered to Pedro Garcia, architect Álvaro Machado, Rita Santos and Sara Coelho. João Sio, Nuno Silvestre, João Almeida and João Ferreira were distinguished with the award Professor Alberto Abecassis Manzanares (Hydraulics, Environment and Water Resources), regarding the academic year 2014/15.

At the closing session, professor Luís Oliveira e Silva, president of the Scientific Council at Técnico, spoke about the importance of such lectures “life at University allows us to meet people from different areas”. He also noted that “it is increasingly important to reward our faculty and our students”.

“Congratulations to all the winners. Now, that you’ve graduated, take everything you’ve learned at Técnico to your professional life (…). You are always welcome back here.”
