The event “Verão na ULisboa” is an initiative organised by Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) that aims to provide basic and secondary school students with the opportunity to experience the academic life in the several ULisboa schools. During one week, each School offers a plan of activities (experiments, games, visits and workshops), which allows the participants to interact in laboratories, classrooms, research centres, etc. From 4th to 15th July, Técnico welcomed 400 students, who visited the Alameda and Taguspark campuses, and participated in several hands-on activities.
The first week (July 4-8) took place at Alameda campus and involved 100 students who will attend the 8th, 9th or 10th grades next year. The students had the opportunity to build an electrical circuit with bananas, make a claw from cardboard, syringes, and silicone air tubes, get to know the world of entrepreneurship and apply basic concepts of 3D geometric modeling, among others.
The second week (July 11-15) took place simultaneously at Alameda (Lisbon) and Taguspark (Oeiras) campuses, and brought together almost 300 students, who were challenged to solve engineering, science and technology daily life problems. In total, 17 activities were organised (12 activities took place at Alameda and 5 took place at Taguspark), including: making video games, defining a supply chain, building micro-rockets or creating electromagnetism experiments.
“I hope you have enjoyed your time at ‘Verão na ULisboa’ and made new friends. I hope to see you here, at Técnico, next year”, said the president of Técnico, Rogério Colaço, at the closing ceremony, held on July 15.
The activities of this year’s edition were organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Student Support Unit (NAPE), the Electrical and Computer Engineering Student Group (NEECIST), the Mechanical Engineering Student Group (Fórum Mecânica), the Junior Enterprises at Instituto Superior Técnico (JUNITEC), the Aerospace Engineering Student Group (Aerotéc), the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (IEEE-IST / EMBS), the Civil Engineering Student Group (Civil Forum), the GameDev Técnico, the Game Lab at Técnico, the Biological Engineering Student Group (NEBIST), the Materials Engineering Student Group (NEMat), the Physics Student Group (NFIST) and the Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores – Investigação e Desenvolvimento (INESC ID), the Taguspark Communication, Events and Partnerships Unit (NCEP), the Department of Engineering and Management, the ROB-9-16 Project and the Electronic Engineering student group (N3E).
