Xpand IT, member of IST Spin-off community, has decided to donate €30,000 to help reinforce the protection of professionals who are on the front line battling Covid-19 and also to reinforce the equipment in the field hospitals. Donations will be equally divided between “Liga dos Amigos do Hospital de Viana” and “Liga dos Amigos do Garcia de Orta” and should be used to buy personal protective equipment for medical personnel and equipment for field hospitals. Surgical masks, full protective suits, protective gowns or medical shields will be acquired with this donation.

XpandIT also decided to offer 3 computers to the State Secretariat for Citizenship and Equality, in order to deal with tech material shortages.

“Corporate social responsibility it’s in our DNA. From the beginning, we want to give something back to the community, which welcomed us and allowed us to growth as a company. We have contributed in different ways: social support to institutions, computer donations and scholarships”, says Rui Maia, Partner and CHRO of Xpand IT and Técnico alumnus.

Four years ago, Xpand IT created a scholarship programme for Técnico students that has been growing year after year.

In 2018, the IST Spin-Off received the Philantropy Partner of the Year 2018 award at the Atlassian Summit 2018. In 2019, Xpand IT joined the Pledge 1% global movement, which empowers companies to donate 1% of product, 1% of equity, 1% of profit or 1% of employee time to non-profit organisations every year.
