On 19th September, the Pharmacy Museum hosted the exhibition “Histórias de Lisboa” within the scope of the MEMEX project – MEMories and EXperiences for inclusive digital narratives (2019-2022).
The inhabitants of Lisbon, Barcelona and Paris were invited by the MEMEX project partners to participate in a digital storytelling journey based on a participatory methodology and an App prototype, jointly designed to reinforce inclusion and cultural participation.
Throughout the project, guided tours of the local heritage were promoted to think about places and expressions, which inspired participants to identify themes, write and create their audio-visual stories, emphasizing their active role in the reinterpretation of the existing heritage.
The exhibition “Histórias de Lisboa” presents a selection of narratives from the pilot project of the MEMEX project that took place in Lisbon. Coordinated by Mapa das Ideias, this pilot project included storytelling workshops that allowed migrants to explore Lisbon’s cultural heritage, and share their own stories.
About the MEMEX project
The MEMEX project, funded by the European Union Research and Innovation programme, Horizon 2020, promotes social cohesion through collaborative heritage-related tools that support inclusive access to tangible and intangible cultural heritage, facilitating meetings, discussions and interactions between communities at risk of social exclusion.
These tools empower people and enable them to combine their fragmented experiences and memories into compelling and geo-located stories, using new personal digital content in relation to pre-existing European Cultural Heritage (CH). MEMEX tools allow communities to tell their stories, claiming their rights to equal participation in European societies, and promoting recognition of difference and cultural diversity by giving voice to these individuals.
MEMEX is a project coordinated by the Italian Institute of Technology (Italy), and involves a consortium composed of: Interactive Technologies Institute, ITI – LARSyS at Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal), Noho (Ireland), EY (Italy), Michael Culture Association (Belgium), Interarts (Spain), ECCOM (Italy), Mapa das Ideias (Portugal), Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Italy), Dédale (France) and CNRS – Center National de Recherche Scientifique (France).
