This Tuesday, May 17th, the World Telecommunication Day was highlighted, like every year. And there could be no better date than this for Técnico to sign the InTele protocol. Ten companies said “Yes!” to provide conditions to form resources in the telecommunications area and were present in the meeting room of the central building.
“InTele intends to respond to a need that exists on both sides: train resources to respond to the needs of companies and capture students on the way out of graduation and provide attractive conditions to attract them to the telecommunications area,” said Professor Luís Correia, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) and researcher at INESC-ID, after the opening of the session by Professor Pedro Amaral, Vice President for Business Connections and Operations.
Since this is an area in constant evolution and with the emergence of new technologies, companies increasingly feel the need to capture new resources for this area, or they may not keep up with technological developments when compared to other countries, “a situation that has not always been perceived by our students”, said Professor Alberto Santos-Vítor, from DEEC.
The signing of protocols then started. Celfinet, Cisco, Ericsson, Infinera, MEO, Nokia, NOS, Thales, Huawei and Vodafone, advanced, one by one, towards the table where they signed the protocol with Técnico, in what is one of the ways to achieve collective success in telecommunications – the talent creation in the sector.
This was followed by an intervention by engineer Sérgio Catalão, Country manager of Nokia Portugal and alumnus of Técnico, who after thanking for the opportunity to make his intervention on behalf of the sector, said that he believed “that the collective success of the sector of the past should serve as a stimulus for the future. A future that we are starting through a new cycle where there is an opportunity in the sector even greater”, reinforcing that “telecommunications are not a sector of uncertainty”, reinforced by the emergence of the 5G network and other technologies that apply to the most diverse economic sectors.
The President of Técnico, Professor Rogério Colaço closed the session saying thanks to all the companies involved, reinforcing that “this mission is not fulfilled without this being an open university. Técnico is open to companies, economic fabric, families and talent.”
