Instituto Superior Técnico created the Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo Award in 2016, to promote her outstanding contributions as an engineer, alumna and national leader with a decisive role and impact on Portuguese society.
Técnico is now promoting the 9th edition of the Award, which aims to annually recognise and reward two women who graduated at Técnico (alumnae) in the following categories:
- Role Model Alumna: a former student who has completed her studies at Técnico for over 15 years and who has made outstanding contributions throughout her professional career.
- Young Alumna: a recently graduated from Técnico, under 27 years old by 31st December 2024, whose Master’s thesis has been distinguished for its scientific quality and whose academic performance at Técnico has been remarkable.
Award nominations in the Role-Model Alumna category may be submitted by any member of the Técnico community, including alumni. The application form must include the nominee’s curriculum vitae (maximum of one page – A4 paper format).
Applications for the Young Alumna category must be submitted directly by the interested parties using the respective form. The deadline for submitting applications and nominations is 25 September.
The award winners of the 2024 edition were Carla Lewark (Role-Model Alumna category) and Eduarda Vaz e Sofia Aparício (Young Alumna category). The Award has the High Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Portuguese Republic, Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
