Stanford University recently released an update of the World’s Top 2% Scientists list, which includes more than 100,000 researchers. 124 Técnico researchers were included in the ranking of the world’s most cited researchers, representing a substantial increase compared to 2020.
The ranking covers 22 major fields and 176 subfields. The updated list published on 19th October used Scopus database until August 2021.
As in previous years, separate data are shown for career-long and single-year impacts.
The list based on career-long impact includes 93 Técnico researchers (some of the names are affiliated with Universidade de Lisboa and/or Research Centers).
The list based on single-year impact includes almost the same names, plus 31 researchers linked to the school.
The Técnico scientists stand out in many different fields, such as Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing, Operations Research, Civil Engineering, Materials, Astrophysics and Gravitation, Networking & Telecommunications, Energy, Environmental Sciences, among others.
The ranking was compiled by John Ioannidis (Stanford University), Jeroen Baas (Elsevier B.V.) and Kevin W. Boyack (SciTech Strategies) and provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator. The first version was published in 2019, aiming to create a database of more than 100,000 scientists, available to the public, with the purpose of combating abuse of self-citation. Since then, the publication has been updated every year.
The presence of Técnico researchers in the list of the most influential researchers in the world reflects the high quality of scientific production and the excellence of Técnico researchers in multiple areas.
