Applications for public higher education (1st call) start today, 21 July, and run until 4 August.
The application process takes place online on the Directorate General for Higher Education (DGES) website. Candidates can authenticate with their citizen’s card or the Digital Mobile Key (CMD).
The number of places available in Portuguese public higher education has risen to 55,956 for the 2025/2026 academic year, which corresponds to an increase of 643 places compared to the previous year. Of these, 1,620 places will be available at Técnico.
The results of the 1st call will be published on 24 August. Enrolment and registration will take place between 25 and 28 August. Técnico will welcome new students at the Welcome Week, from 1 to 3 September.
In the case of placement at Instituto Superior Técnico, the CMD – which can be requested at Autenticação.Gov – will also be required for new students to enrol. The activation of the CMD may take a few weeks, so the request must be made in due time, before the publication of the CNAES results.
The National Call for Public Higher Education is the most common way of accessing an undergraduate programme, but there is also special admission for applicants over the age of 23, holders of middle level and higher education, and change of course/institution, with specific application deadlines.
