QS World University Ranking by Subject: Civil & Structural Engineering at ULisboa in the world’s top 100

Universidade de Lisboa holds the top position in Engineering and Technology at the national level.

Instituto Superior Técnico has once again contributed to the national leadership of Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) in Engineering & Technology, in the 2025 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject. ULisboa has moved to 171st place worldwide (197th in 2024) and 52nd in Europe (64th in 2024).

In Técnico’s areas of expertise, Civil & Structural Engineering is among the top 100 out of 275 institutions evaluated. Additionally, Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, as well as Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing Engineering place ULisboa within the top 200 universities worldwide.

Five indicators determine the QS World University Rankings by Subject: ‘academic reputation’, ‘employer reputation’, ‘research citations per paper’, ‘H-index’ and ‘International research network (by broad faculty area)’.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject is produced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) in partnership with Elsevier. The 2025 edition features 55 individual subjects divided into five general areas of knowledge.
