Dr. Richard van de Sanden, director of the Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research (DIFFER), was the guest speaker of the third session of IST Distinguished Lecture Series, which took place this Friday, at Abreu Faro amphitheatre.
In his lecture titled “Plasma non-equilibrium at work: key to success of energy technologies”, Richard van de Sanden talked about the work carried out at DIFFER and the future of fundamental energy research.
According to the researcher, in short term, photovoltaics and wind energy will play a greater role in energy production, but in the future there will be a need to “store” large scale energy, which will bring new challenges in this area.
The IST Distinguished Lectures aim to promote Science in Portugal bringing together professors and researchers who have distinguished themselves in their fields of expertise. Dr. Richard van de Sanden was invited by IPFN – Institute for Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion.
