Taiwan ranking: ULisboa maintains national leadership in ‘Engineering’ with strong contribution from Técnico

Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering maintain prominent positions in the European context.

The 2025 edition of the National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU), dedicated to evaluating scientific research in higher education institutions, once again positions Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) as the national leader in the broad field of ‘Engineering’. ULisboa ranks 26th, among 143 European universities, with a strong contribution from Instituto Superior Técnico.

This highlight is also repeated in the fields of Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering, which are exclusive or almost exclusive to Técnico, ensuring national leadership and prominent positions in the European context. On the world stage, ULisboa ranks 274th among 696 higher education institutions evaluated in the field of Engineering.

The NTU Ranking assesses scientific research performance based on three dimensions—production volume, impact, and quality/excellence—and is organised into classifications by broad scientific fields and specific subjects. Internationally recognised, the ranking is used as a benchmark to measure the scientific production capacity of institutions, also allowing for the analysis of trends and comparisons between universities worldwide.
