Applications are open until 6th December 2021.

Técnico+, the Técnico Post-graduate Training School, and Banco Santander launched the first edition of the “Digital Business Development” specialisation course, which will award scholarships to 1,000 trainees.

The course aims to provide its participants with the knowledge needed to create a digital business, addressing the main technologies and methodologies to develop new digital business models.

The course will take place from 10th January to 22nd May 2022, in online format.

Target-audience: The course is aimed at Portuguese and Brazilian citizens, over 18 years old, who wish to expand their knowledge of digital business models.

Applications are open until 6th December 2021.

According to Miguel Mira da Silva, course coordinator and associate professor at the IST Department of Computer Science and Engineering, “this course is aimed at everyone interested in developing a digital business, as it presents the main technologies and methodologies to do so. It is not necessary to have previous knowledge or experience. Anyone can have a digital business, with the necessary knowledge and the will to do it”. The professor also added “people who are unemployed or looking for a change in their career may understand that creating a digital business is an alternative to get a job or to change to a fulfilling job. The creation of this type of business is an alternative not only for the person, but also for the economy!”.

The course will consist of two phases:

  • The first phase is open to 1.000 participants who will learn about the role of customer experience, digital operations management, and business models in an organisation’s digital transformation.
  • The 30 students with the best classification in the first phase will have access to two levels of specialisation, in synchronous mode. This second phase of the course will be divided into two modules, according to the expertise of each of the course trainers. The first phase will be taught by professor Miguel Mira da Silva, and the second will be taught by Dr Hugo de Sousa.
  • Finally, the last module will consist of a group project, where participants will be able to reinforce and deepen the knowledge acquired, as they will be asked to develop a prototype of a new digital business.

“At the end of the course, the trainees will know how to put into practice new digital businesses. This course provides an overview of the topic, culminating in the application of knowledge, thus ensuring that the trainees understand the whole process. Therefore, it is expected that students gain more skills in this area and more willingness to create a new digital business”, says professor Miguel Mira da Silva. “I hope that they enjoy doing this course”, he adds.

Tiago Guerra, Executive Director of Técnico+, believes that this course is extremely relevant nowadays, due to the growing digital transformation. “It is important to understand the context of digital transformation in order to learn how to develop digital business models. This course offers a solid background in this area, as it has a holistic approach, ranging from the technology, such as web pages and mobile applications, to the methodology, where trainees learn about topics such as remote collaboration and the business model canvas, culminating in a project where they will be able to put the acquired knowledge to the test.”

“We developed this partnership with Santander bank in order to provide scholarships to a wider audience, including people looking for a postgraduate training in the digital area but need funding to pursuit their studies”, adds Tiago Guerra.

This will be the first edition of the course and it is expected that applications come from people with different backgrounds, seeking to develop their skills within the area of digital transformation, which is expected to grow in the coming years.
