Unbabel, an IST spin-off that combines human editing and machine learning into an online translation platform raised $5 million (€4.5 million) in a series A round from Notion Capital and Caixa Capital. In three years, the project founded by Vasco Pedro and João Graça, researchers at Técnico, has already raised more than $8 million.
According to the newspaper Observador, Chris Tottman, partner at Notion Capital, said that the venture capital firm is “very impressed with the core technology at Unbabel and its clients, such as Pinterest, Microsoft and Skyscanner, as well as its potential growth in platforms like Zendesk and Salesforce”.
In an initial phase, the startup participated in YCombinator, one of the world’s most prestigious acceleration programmes, which made an investment of $100 in Unbable.
