Magnomics, a startup of INESC-ID and member of IST SPIN-OFF community, awarded the first place at Ag Biotech Entrepreneurial Showcase 2016, an annual event organised by North Carolina Biotechnology Center.

This startup, the only non-US company among the 12 companies in the competition, is currently developing a quick and easy to use diagnostic device based on innovative DNA technology using magnetic nanoparticles.

This DNA technology using magnetic nanoparticles was developed at INESC-MN and INESC-ID for over a decade. Magnomics was created in 2013 as a spin-off company from both institutes and all its founders, Filipe Cardoso, José Germano, Sofia Martins, Verónica and João Pereira attended Técnico.

Magnomic aims to become an international reference in animal health diagnostic in a few years. After its presence in the animal health sector, other applications and markets may be explored, namely in food safety and human health.
