The book “Inspirar. Expire. Fotografar”, by Augusto Alves da Silva and published by IST Press, will be launched on 16th September, at 5 p.m., at CEiiA, Matosinhos.

“Inspirar. Expirar. Fotografar” is the title of a photography project by Augusto Alves da Silva, which has now resulted in a book.

In 2020, during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, and over five months, Augusto Alves da Silva photographed the “Atena” project, developed at CEiiA, which aimed to respond to the urgent need for mechanical ventilators to support respiratory insufficiency due to Covid-19.

During five months, the photographer followed the day-to-day of all those who worked at CEiiA, trying not to be invasive, and captured the unique pandemic context.

This book is more than a photographic record, it is about interpreting the present time. This book tells a story that doesn’t have a beginning, a middle and an end. It provides a fluid and pleasant reading experience, almost like a movie, or a photographic roll film.

This project is a portrait of knowledge and science at the service of the community.
