Book launch session – Nuno Maulide

Técnico - Alameda campus

Técnico is pleased to announce the launch of Nuno Maulide’s book titled “Como Se Transforma Ar em Pão” (“How to Turn Air into Bread?”). The book launch session will take place on 10th September, at 6.30 p.m., in Abreu Faro amphitheatre – Alameda Campus.

• Synopsis

Chemistry has a bad reputation. We hear about accidents in chemical plants that cause environmental contamination, greenhouse gases in the atmosphere or carcinogenic chemicals in food…
Chemistry is an essential science to our modern lives and will help us to solve global problems, such as climate and ecological changes, and to respond to the increasing food demand of the growing population, by creating chemical fertilizers and medicines, plastics and hygiene products, among many others.
And if you still think that chemistry has nothing to do with your daily life, Nuno Maulide explains: do you know why apples should be stored separately to stay fresh longer? Why do we cry when we’re cutting onions? Why do toilets in Kenya smell less bad than in the United States of America? How to turn air into bread?
This book will provide readers the opportunity to discover the usefulness of this fascinating science, to see the world through the eyes of a chemist and to discover that, after all, Chemistry is a science about ourselves and the universe around us.
