«The Department of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineering (DER) and the Centro de Recursos Naturais e Ambiente (CERENA) are pleased to announce the Short-course “Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in the Context of Circular Economy and Sustainable Development”, presented by Esperanza Batuecas (Associate Professor, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid).

The event will take place from 16 to 18 July, from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., in room 3.23, Mining Engineering Building, at Técnico – Alameda campus, and will be organised under the Erasmus+ programme.

Participants will have the opportunity to dive into the fundamentals and applications of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as a key tool for sustainable development and circular economy strategies. This intensive 3-day course offers both theoretical insights and hands-on experience using OpenLCA software.

Topics include:

  • Introduction to Circular Economy and Sustainable Development
  • LCA Overview and ISO Standards
  • Methodologies and Tools
  • Practical Case Study: Car Battery Analysis Using OpenLCA
  • Result Interpretation and Sensitivity Analysis
  • Open to students, researchers, and professionals in engineering, sustainability, and environmental sciences
