3rd edition of the Everis NTT Data Merit Award in Machine Learning

Five teams presented their work on neural networks in a Final Pitch. The "Digitus" team was the winning team.

The “Digitus” team, composed of Gonçalo Valente de Oliveira and João Ribeiro Dias, won the 3rd edition of the “everis NTT DATA Merit Award in Machine Learning” and collected a €1,300 prize money. The Final Pitch took place this is Wednesday, 6th October.

The 5 teams presented their work on neural networks, within the scope of Machine Learning course unit. The jury was composed of Técnico professors Andrzej Wichert and Eugénio Ribeiro (Machine Learning course unit) and by two everis NTT Data representatives, Pedro Martins, Data & Analytics Director and Carla Cardoso, Senior Manager Data & Analytics.

Each team was evaluated according to the following criteria: project execution; innovative component, presentation of results and communication skills.

A donation of €867 was also awarded to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DEI) for the improvement of teaching quality.

The CEO of everis NTT DATA Portugal and Técnico alumnus, Pedro Barroso, congratulated the students for their good work and highlighted “everything you study, think and do, is at the forefront of technological innovation”.

The president of Técnico, professor Rogério Colaço, thanked everis NTT DATA for the valuable support and highlighted the importance of the university-business link. “This link represents an area of major strategic importance for Técnico because it adds value to our students”. Professor Rogério Colaço also recalled that this partnership created in 2018 have resulted in important projects, such as the Lab2Market – an innovation acceleration program.
