“I can’t believe today’s our last day!”, say some students. This is the last week of “Verão na ULisboa” but some participants are already thinking of returning next year: “We are all part of Técnico”.
“This is really big. I didn’t imagine that engineering was present in nearly all things”, says Joana Vital, a young student girl who shared “I wanted to come and my parents encouraged me. I want to discover new things and I want to learn more”. Miguel Aguiar, a young student boy, has a different story: “My parents told me to participate in this year’s edition and I am really enjoying being here. I had already participated last year but I didn’t learn much, so I didn’t have much fun”, he recalls. “I feel that this year I learnt new things so it has been great”, he adds.
“Verão na ULisboa” offers a wide range of activities. Engineering, science and creativity are part of all the activities. Investigating a homicide, building a rocket, building a tower of cards, making a banana piano and differentiating raw egg and boiled egg without breaking them, were some challenges posed to participants.
“Being here allows us to understand what we really like and helps us to decide what to do in the future”, explains Sara Fernandes. “I am learning a lot, I am having a better idea of each course and I am having a lot of fun”, she shares. According to Bruna Godinho, another participant, “I participated in last year’s edition but in another school. This year I choose a different school and I am enjoying it a lot”. “I think these activities are very important because we have fun and, instead of staying at home, we learn things that may be important for our future”, she adds. “Where would you rather be? Here or at the beach?”, we asked students. “We prefer being here because we have a lot of time to go to the beach”, they answered.
Professor Arlindo Oliveira, the president of Técnico, attended the closing session. “I hope you all learnt a great deal about Science, Technology and Engineering this week. I hope that you come back one day to study at Técnico”, said professor Arlindo Oliveira. “Engineering is a noble profession. I hope that the people you met here passed on their passion for engineering and science to you”, he added.
