EIT Educational Programmes promote innovation in emerging areas

Instituto Superior Técnico is a partner university of the EIT Health network and EIT InnoEnergy network.

The EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) offer students unique learning opportunities at the best European universities, fostering students to become more creative, innovative and entrepreneurs. Students will also be offered the opportunity to get in touch with innovative companies. The EIT partner network allows students to experience mobility from one country to another – with financial assistance to support cost – and between the academy and several companies. At the end students will receive a double degree and an EIT label certificate.

Instituto Superior Técnico is a partner university of several EIT InnoEnergy programmes, one EIT InnoEnergy Doctoral programme and two EIT Health Master programmes.

Técnico participates in two programmes funded by the EIT Health network: HMDA – Health and Medical Data Analytics and MTiH – Master in Technological Innovation in Health.

The HMDA programme is a partnership between Técnico, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Université Grenoble-Alpes and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. The programme offers robust training in entrepreneurship combined with innovative education in healthcare data. This is one of the latest EIT Health degree programmes and offers students unique and transdisciplinary academic profile through obligatory international student mobility and cross-organisational internships. Graduates will acquire sophisticated skills in data analytics for health applications, and will be able to use these skills to create new solutions for healthcare needs.

The MTiH programme started in 2017 and offers a transdisciplinary approach to Biomedical Engineering. A consortium of five universities – Sorbonne Université, Universitat of Barcelona, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Université Grenoble Alpes and Universidade de Lisboa – partnered to create MTiH. Students work in multidisciplinary teams and learn to combine different technologies to solve real life health problems and to improve the quality of life of European citizens.

The InnoEnergy network currently offers seven master’s programmes. Técnico is a partner university in 5 of them: MSc Energy Storage; MSc Energy Transition; MSc ENTECH – Energy Technologies; MSc RENE – Renewable Energy; and the MSc SELECT – Environomical Pathways for Sustainable Energy System.

The MSc Energy Storage gives its graduates the engineering skills required to work in this exciting and fast-evolving field.

The MSc in Energy Transition prepares graduates to lead the implementation of contemporary energy systems and lead circular economy strategies.

The MSc ENTECH – Energy Technologies offers an in-depth understanding of the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in the future energy industry and enables students to think in new ways about energy, providing a solid foundation in order to meet tomorrow’s energy challenges.

Renewable energy is changing the energy industry fast, creating a more diverse sector with huge opportunities for new technologies, new businesses and new ideas. The MSc RENE provides in-depth knowledge of all major renewable technologies and gives students the opportunity to specialise in their areas of interest.

The MSc SELECT students will learn to make a real contribution to minimising the environmental impact of current and future energy systems and to address societal challenges with technical solutions.
