The Formula Student team at Técnico, FST Lisboa, will compete both with a 100% electric prototype and with an autonomous car. For the first time, the team will participate in one of the most important and fiercely fought competitions – the FS Austria.
FST Lisboa had already participated in more than 25 international competitions and now the team faces a new challenge: competing with its 2 prototypes under development: the FST 10e and the FST10d, in three of the most important competitions in the world: FS Spain, FS Germany and FS Austria.
“The team had to answer a series of quizzes in order to qualify for the different competitions, which included theoretical knowledge and rules of the competition”, explains the team leader Inês Netto Viveiros. “The team passed all the quizzes” and chose to compete in Spain, Germany and Austria.
Last year, the Técnico team ranked 9th in its class at FS Germany and this year the team will debut at FS Austria. According to Inês Netto Viveiros “competitions are very intense moments that promote the sharing of knowledge, ideas and cultures. Harder competitions push us to do better”.
Although participation in the Austrian competition is an important and stimulating goal, the team leader says that the biggest challenge this year “is the autonomous car”. “We expect that this car will be able to score in all races, regardless of speed, ensuring the team qualification”.
FST Lisboa still has four months of intense work ahead but for now the team “promises to make history as the first autonomous car developed with “Made In Portugal” technology ”.
