António Cruz Serra, professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) and honorary rector of Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa), was decorated by the President of the Portuguese Republic with the Grand Cross of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, this Tuesday, November 23.
The Order of Infante D. Henrique aims “to distinguish those who have provided relevant services to Portugal, both domestically and abroad, and promoted the Portuguese culture”.
This distinction was conferred for the service provided as rector of ULisboa for 8 years, more precisely since the merger between Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (UTL) and Universidade de Lisboa in 2013.
After graduating in Electrotechnical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, professor António Cruz Serra joined Instituto Superior Técnico and obtained a Master and PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
He began teaching at Técnico in 1978, and became a Full Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2005.
Professor António Cruz Serra is a researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) since 1994. He was a researcher at the Biomechanics Group – Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (1979–1981) and at the Electrotechnical Center – Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (1981–1994).
He was rector of Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (2012-2013) and president of Instituto Superior Técnico (2009-2012).
