The 3rd edition of the Sky Merit Award in Algorithms for Computational Logic recognised the academic performance of Daniela Costa, a master’s student in Computer Science and Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico. The award ceremony took place on 26 March at 11 a.m. in the Main Building’s meeting room, at Técnico – Alameda campus.
The award, which honours the student with the best performance in the Algorithms for Computational Logic curricular unit, reinforces the strategic collaboration between Técnico and Sky Portugal.
Daniela Costa, the award winner, received a prize of 1,535 euros. “I want to thank Sky, professor Vasco Manquinho, my parents, and my friends. This curricular unit has shaped my thinking and my approach to problem-solving. As a displaced student, this award is also a significant financial help”, she said expressing her gratitude.
Pedro Amaral, the Vice-President of Técnico for Corporate Interface, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, led the opening session of the ceremony and highlighted the importance of merit awards: ‘These awards not only recognise students’ hard work, but also help relieve the pressure associated with academic pursuits. Partnerships like this one with Sky, an international company, are vital for the success of these initiatives.’
Pedro Sousa, Head of Content Discovery at Sky and a Técnico alumnus, presented the award to the winner and emphasised the relationship between Sky and Técnico: “I’m honoured to return to Técnico and present this award, especially since Sky Portugal was founded by people who were trained here.”
The ceremony also included a donation of 1025 euros to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DEI) to enhance teaching and learning conditions for Técnico students. Professor Daniel Gonçalves, Vice-Head of DEI, emphasised the importance of Sky’s support: ‘This collaboration motivates students and opens doors for their future’.
