7 Research & Development (R&D) units with a link to Técnico won 81 research initiation scholarships, under the FCT special support “Verão com Ciência” (“Summer with Science”).

The R&D units that will benefit from this programme are: Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE) – 17 scholarships; Center of Physics and Engineering of Advanced Materials (CeFEMA) – 4 scholarships; Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics (LIP) – 8 scholarships; Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) – 18 scholarships; Institute for Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion (IPFN) – 9 scholarships; Associate Laboratory for Energy, Transports and Aeronautics (LAETA) – 22 scholarships; and Centre for Management Studies at Instituto Superior Técnico(CEG-IST) –3 scholarships.

The “Verão com Ciência” (“Summer With Science”) programme is a special support given by FCT for scientific and technological research activities, with a view of enhancing scientific and technological capacity and strengthening its relationship with higher education and society.

This support aims to stimulate initiation into scientific activity, thus contributing to the promotion of scientific and technological culture and to the dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge among higher education students.

This is the second edition of the “Verão com Ciência” (“Summer With Science”) programme, aimed only at R&D units that obtained the classification of Good, Very Good or Excellent, in FCT’s 2017-2018 evaluation process.

In total, 418 research initiation scholarships will be awarded as part of 67 programmes, representing a total investment of €190,000. The complete list of actions approved for funding can be found on FCT website.
