The Técnico Career Sessions, an initiative of the Technology Transfer Office at Técnico, took place in the last two weeks. These sessions are intended for 2nd cycle students and aim to make students aware of the recruitment process and to help them planning their professional future.
Professor Luís Caldas de Oliveira, vice-president of Técnico for Entrepreneurship and Corporate Relations, was the responsible for these sessions. “We want to help and guide you through the recruitment process and to inform you about the available resources that will make it possible.”, he said.
“The way that companies hunt talent and the way people manage their careers have changed in the last years. We know that it’s important to adapt to this reality, so Técnico decided to create a series of initiatives that will help you in the transition process student/engineer.”
The professor talked about the different initiatives of the programme Career Discovery@Técnico (Técnico Career Sessions, Técnico Career Workshops and Técnico Career Scholarships) as well as the other activities that help students in this process, such as the Técnico Career Weeks, AEIST Jobshop or Técnico Summer Interships, but noted that planning is the most important thing. “The first thing you should know is that you must have a plan. That plan may change tomorrow, but it exists and will help you to achieve your goal.”
Professor Luís Caldas de Oliveira also noted that education at Técnico is very demanding, which means that graduates are highly sought by employers – not only in Portugal. “There are some things that are much better in Portugal than we could imagine due to the size of our country: football players and coaches, telecommunications infrastructures and Higher Education, in all Universities, but mainly at Técnico. Our programmes are very demanding but that ensures that our students have a bigger work capacity.”
Finally he noted that “our goal is to ensure that you find the right job for your future”. “It’s not the better paid job, but the most valuable one.“
