The new students started to arrive at Taguspark campus before 8.30 a.m. Marta Santos came from Figueira da Foz to study Industrial Engineering and Management. Técnico was not her first option, but now she doesn’t want to change. “It has been a very busy week, but we are having a lot of fun. This will be an unforgettable week”, she says.
“Técnico is one of the best engineering schools, it has a lot of prestige, which undoubtedly influenced my choice”, says Pedro Ferreira. “My first choice course was Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering because it was the one I was most likely to enter”, he adds. He is very happy because he will “study a subject that really interests me”. “Besides being closer to home, Taguspark campus has incredible facilities and it has a more quite atmosphere”, he adds.
The welcome session was attended by professor Arlindo Oliveira, president of Técnico, professor Raquel Aires-Barros, president of Pedagogic Council and members of Taguspark campus Management Committee: professors Fernando Mira da Silva, Luísa Coheur, Ana Moura Santos and Helena Galhardas. The AEIST vice-president, Tomás Costa, also attended the session.
The president of Técnico welcomed and congratulated the new students, highlighting that Técnico is a very challenging and demanding school: “if you work hard and manage your time wisely, you will succeed”. Professor Arlindo Oliveira also stressed the importance of soft skills that students can develop and improve by participating in extracurricular activities. The president of Técnico challenged the 200 new students: “As Técnico graduates it’s your responsibility to disseminate and improve Técnico’ s image in Portugal and overseas”, he added.
Several course presentation sessions were held during the morning. The welcome week at Taguspark campus will continue during this afternoon and on Thursday.
