The welcome session of new students at Taguspark campus took place this Thursday and was attended by the president of Técnico, professor Arlindo Oliveira and the vice-presidents of Técnico for Taguspark campus and Academic Affairs, professors Luís M. Correia and Jorge Morgado. The session was also attended by the president of the Scientific Council, professor Luís Oliveira e Silva, by members of the Pedagogic Council, professor Ana Moura Santos, João Pires Ribeiro (student vice-president) and the president of the Students’ Union (AEIST) Rodrigo do Ó.
After professor Luís M. Correia have welcomed the new students, professor Jorge Morgado said that “we are very pleased to welcome new faces each year and assist to a renewal of this school”. “Some of the best students from secondary school joined Técnico”, said the professor before reminding that Técnico has different support mechanisms to ensure that the “adaptation to this new cycle” is done smoothly. “Our role is to provide you with good conditions that will guarantee a good academic performance.
Professor Luís Oliveira e Silva also left a word to the new students: “Congratulations. You worked hard to get here. A new phase is about to begin now. We are counting on your potential and work so that you can achieve your goals and maintain Técnico’ s leadership”.
“This is a very important moment for you. Probably this is the largest gathering of talent you will find throughout your lives. Take full advantage of this experience.”
Rodrigo do Ó took the opportunity to remind that “We are not a little group of students, we are the students’ union and I work for you. This is your home and you shall do with it whatever you want.”
Professor Arlindo Oliveira closed the session ensuring that the new students “chose very well the training areas”. “This is the most well-prepared group of new students that will join Técnico, therefore they are prepared for the challenge. You will share five years with people who will remain in your life. Stimulate these relationships. Besides, in my opinion, you have chosen the most exciting careers of our time and probably of our future. You are at the centre of the technological change.”
