Professor Luís M. Correia won the 2021 EurAAP Propagation Award

The IST professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and researcher at INESC-ID won the 2021 EurAAP Propagation Award.

Luís M. Correia, IST professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) and researcher at INESC-ID, has recently won the 2021 EurAAP Propagation Award, delivered by the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP), for leadership in the field of propagation for wireless and mobile communications.

“I am deeply pleased and honoured to receive this award from EurAAP, which is one of the most important international technical-scientific associations in this field. I work in the field of propagation for wireless and mobile communications, and I have been involved in several international projects. This award is a pleasant surprise and recognises my work”, says professor Luís M. Correia, who shares this award with colleagues, collaborators and students with whom he has worked over the last few years: “This award is the result of the efforts of many people”.

Luís M. Correia received Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from IST in 1991. He is an associate professor in the area of Telecommunications and develops research activities in the field of mobile and wireless communications. He is also a senior researcher at INESC-ID / INOV. He has acted as a consultant for Portuguese mobile communications operators and ANACOM and other public and private institutions, and he was member of EID Board of Directors.

He has supervised more than 200 M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. He authored more than 500 articles in national and international magazines and conferences, and edited 6 books. He was involved in 32 European projects within various framework programmes. He was member of 71 evaluation committees of EU projects and institutions and 12 funding agencies. He organised and taught more than 70 advanced training courses for companies and other entities.

He was the Portuguese delegate of COST Technical Committee and the Chairman of the Technical Programme Committee of several major conferences. He was part of the Expert Advisory Group and of the Steering Board of the European Net!Works platform, and was the Chairman of its Working Group on Applications. He launched and coordinated the activities of IEEE / ComSoc in Portugal from 2006 to 2014. He was Vice-president of Técnico for the management of Taguspark campus from 2016 to 2019, and Vice-president of Técnico for Corporate Relations and Head of Técnico+ from January to April 2020. He is also an Honorary Professor of Gdańsk University of Technology (Poland).

The EurAAP Award was established in 2011. Starting in 2015, two Awards were established: the EurAAP Antenna Award and the EurAAP Propagation Award. The Awards are granted every year, during the European Conference on Antennas & Propagation event, which took place online from 22nd to 26th March 2021.
