Técnico renews collaboration protocol with Deloitte

The official collaboration between the School and the company has already led to the renovation of study spaces, among other improvements.

The partnership protocol between Instituto Superior Técnico and the consulting firm Deloitte was renewed on December 19, at Técnico – Alameda campus. The ceremony was attended by the president of Técnico, Rogério Colaço, and Deloitte representatives, as well as various members of the Pedagogical Council, Departments and the Técnico Students’ Union.

“If, after three years, we’re here renewing our vows and reinforcing this link, that means we’re on the right track”, said Rogério Colaço. “This is something innovative in our country; it’s opening the doors of the university to partners and employers, which will create many important things”, added the president of Técnico.

Rogério Colaço recalled “Técnico trains people who can contribute to the country’s development”, which is something that “can’t be done by closing its doors”. Giving another example of the advantages of these collaborations, the president said “Portuguese public higher education institutions are underfunded and the financial slack that comes from these partnerships has made it possible, for example, to build this room“, referring to the laboratory where the ceremony was taking place, which was renovated with financial support from Deloitte.

Pedro Amaral, at the time vice-president of Técnico for Operations and Corporate Partnerships, listed some of the initiatives resulting from this partnership – he mentioned, for example, classroom renovation and equipping, which will create a better study environment for Técnico students. He also highlighted the support that will be given to the Pedagogical Council and teaching practices regarding digital technologies. The list of advantages also includes annual merit awards for students attending Computer Science and Engineering courses and Electrical and Computer Engineering courses, as well as “the first Digital Product Award in Teaching at Técnico”.

The Deloitte representative, Sérgio Monte Lee, said that Técnico is the institution from which the company hires the most people – “approximately 100 people a year in the areas of technology and industrial management”, he said. “We’re delighted to be renewing this partnership,” he added. “Técnico has always been a very important talent source” for our company.

This collaboration has been going on for several years, and was formalised in 2019 with Deloitte joining Técnico Partner Network. The ceremony celebrated the company’s upgrade from SILVER to GOLD member.
