On February 21, the Jerónimo Martins group has once again awarded the best Master’s dissertation in Computer Science and Engineering. This year, the group decided to recognise the three best works by awarding not one, but three prizes.
The 3 award winners were Miguel Monteiro for his dissertation “ExplodeQ.js: A Library of Queries to Detect Injection Vulnerabilities in Node.js Applications” (1st place-€1800), Rúben Inácio for his work “Exploiting graph neural networks for jet identification in LHC experiments” (2nd place-€900) and João Oliveira for his dissertation “HawkSet: An Automatic, Agnostic, and Efficient Concurrent PM Bug Detection Tool” (3rd place-€450).
During the award ceremony, Pedro Amaral, Vice-president of Técnico for Corporate Interface, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, shared “it’s very stimulating to be able to recognise the quality of the students’ works.” Claúdia Vieira, Academic Partnerships Senior Manager at Jerónimo Martins group, highlighted the “partnership made two years ago with Técnico” which made the group “think about how we can bring university and industry closer together”.
In addition to the prizes awarded by Jerónimo Martins, Pedro Amaral handed out diplomas to all the students who presented their master’s projects – André Salgado, João Oliveira, Leonor Veloso, Miguel Monteiro and Rúben Inácio.
The Jerónimo Martins group also donated €1200 to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DEI) for the improvement of teaching and learning conditions. Cláudia Antunes, Vice-Head for Faculty and Researchers at DEI, thanked the donation and stressed “all partnerships with the ‘real world’ are always welcome, because they make our students keep their feet on the ground”.
The partnership between Técnico and Jeronimo Martins Group also includes the Jerónimo Martins Merit Award in Industrial Engineering and Management.
