After the excellent score achieved in the CWUR World University Ranking, Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) stands out once again in two higher education prestigious rankings: the QS World University Ranking and the U-Multirank.
ULisboa ranks 357th in the QS World University Ranking, among 1600 higher education institutions, and ranks 1st at national level, ex aequo with the University of Porto. ULisboa ranks among the 300 best universities in the world in terms of academic reputation – 215th worldwide – and 345th among the universities with the highest average number of citations per faculty.
In the U-Multirank, promoted by the European Commission, ULisboa achieved the maximum scores – 9 “Very Good” and 7 “Good” – in 16 out of the 32 indicators. ULisboa obtains the highest scores in Teaching and Learning, Research and International Orientation. In a more detailed analysis, and if we stick to the scientific areas taught at Técnico, we can see the excellent classification at European level in Mechanical Engineering (1st place), Mathematics (3rd place), Materials Engineering (4th place), Environmental Engineering (5th place) and Civil Engineering (9th place).
Now in its 7th year, the U-Multirank includes 1 800 universities from 92 countries providing a multidimensional and innovative approach, different from traditional rankings. The U-Multirank evaluates universities’ performance through a comparison tool, namely teaching and learning, research, knowledge transfer, international orientation and regional engagement. The indicators cover 5 areas: teaching and learning, research, knowledge transfer, international orientation and regional engagement, on a scale from “Very Good” to “Weak”.
Created in 2012 by the British consulting company Quacquarelli Symonds, the QS World University Ranking evaluates higher education institutions in 93 countries. There were more than 100,000 responses to the global survey of academics and more than 50,000 responded to the separate survey of employers. Universities are evaluated according to six metrics: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
