“Welcome to the best years of your life”. These were the words of professor Miguel Teixeira, Vice-president of the Pedagogical Council, in the welcome session for new students, held this Wednesday, September 14, at Alameda campus. Professor Miguel Teixeira talked about his experience as a Técnico student “you will meet inspiring professors at Técnico”, and highlighted some qualities of a good student, such as intelligence, zest for work, self-discipline, curiosity, enthusiasm, team spirit and joy.
Leonor Matos, Master’s student and member of the Executive Commission of the Pedagogical Council, shared “make the most of your student life”, and stressed the importance of school-life balance.
“You are now part of this community and you should be proud of it”, said Gonçalo Mamede, President of Técnico Students’ Union (AEIST). Gonçalo Mamede made a presentation of AEIST, and invited the new students to get involved in the various student groups and in extra-curricular activities.
The President of Instituto Superior Técnico, professor Rogério Colaço, welcomed the new students and talked about the history of Técnico, the three university campuses, and stressed “Técnico is the largest engineering school in the country”. The training at Técnico was also highlighted “the secret of our success lies in the critical thinking of our community”.
After the welcome session, the new students of Aerospace Engineering, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Materials Engineering and Mechanical Engineering attended several course presentations and visited the Alameda campus. The new students of Industrial Engineering and Management visited the Taguspark campus.
