IST Press published the book “Mecânica Quântica, 2ª edição revista e aumentada”, by Pedro Bicudo, Pedro D. Sacramento, Marco Cardoso, Marta M. Correia, Samuel F. Martins, Ricardo Monteiro, Miguel F. Paulos, João Gomes Rosa and Jorge E. Santos.
Empirical data accumulated during the late 19th and early 20th centuries revealed fundamental flaws on how the world behaves at the microscopic scale. From the efforts made by physicists such as Planck, Bohr, Schrödinger, Heisenberg, Einstein, Dirac and others, a new mechanics was born governing the behaviour of matter and radiation.
Quantum mechanics changed the way we see the world through three fundamental ideas: quantification, duality and probability.
A description of this theory is presented in this book, from the most elementary phenomena to some more complex topics, thus addressing more current subjects.
The concepts are illustrated by examples and images that facilitate its apprehension, namely for students who are approaching these topics for the first time. At the end of each chapter, a set of exercises is presented.
This book is primarily intended for students of physics, mathematics, biophysics and biomedics, but it may also interest chemistry and engineering students.
